California released its much-anticipated new logo during the spring of 2013 to usher in a revamped football program and “Bear Raid” offense under first-year coach Sonny Dykes.

The sleek graphic, a menacing gold and blue bear that appears to be running in a head-on full sprint, will be applied to each of the university’s 27 sports uniforms in some fashion this year.

Along with the logo update appears redesigned threads and wordmarks for California’s men’s basketball team.

The Golden Bears’ previous thin-lettered, all-caps wordmark originated in 2004. Currently, the Bears have two color options at home — white and gold — and a navy road combination featuring gold accents.

It doesn’t appear the Golden Bears will have their classic arched “CALIFORNIA” wordmark any longer, instead moving to a straight across, less-stylized font. California has been under Nike’s Jordan Brand umbrella for several years and is the only team on the West Coast donning the Jumpman.

The special inclusion features player exclusive signature retro shoe models in California’s team-specific colorways. Nike’s 2013 redesign is a much-needed switch in Berkeley since the Golden Bears have been in the same simple uniform sets — with only minor changes to short designs and piping — since the turn of the century.

In the mid 2000s, California often showcased the school’s secondary logo, a white “C” wrapped around gold basketball, at the crest of all jerseys.
