There are times when an alternate jersey works to a program’s advantage and Clemson’s purple uniforms with bright orange accents is likely its best look on the hardwood.

Clemson has made several subtle changes to its three-color options in recent years, but nothing major or trend-setting. The Tigers dropped contrasting wedge designs on the collarbone of jerseys after the 2009 season, choosing to incorporate multiple colors into its shimmery collar instead.

The previous shoulder slashes — purple on home jerseys and orange on purple alternates — gave the Tigers their own unique look and resembled authentic animal stripes. The 2010 uniforms that featured a multi-color swatch underneath the arms and did away with the stripes were revamped again in 2012, this time with two slanted rectangular diamond patterns under the arms and just above the knee on side panels of shorts.

During the 1990s, Clemson only used purple as an accent color outlining its large wordmark on the Tigers’ home white and road orange looks. Clemson’s tiger paw graphic has been the school’s primary logo since 1976.

The Tigers incorporated more purple into their apparel and gameday look in 1999 when the program unveiled an updated “CLEMSON UNIVERSITY” wordmark that included a prowling purple tiger with orange accents.
