UNIFORM HISTORY

Some programs take the retro approach with new uniforms and that was Georgia Tech’s plan when the Yellow Jackets and Russell Athletic came together for an updated look prior to the 2009 season.

The Yellow Jackets decided to honor their 1985 ACC Championship team and 1990 Final Four team with the classic design. Georgia Tech’s navy primary color was now nearly non-existent on the squad’s white uniforms at home, a simple look with a screen-printed “GEORGIA TECH” wordmark.

Georgia Tech also honored its 1959-60 squad during the 2009 season — the first Georgia Tech team to make the NCAA tourney — by wearing throwbacks of the design during a 50th anniversary celebration. Georgia Tech changed its uniforms again in 2012 with Russell Athletic, moving to a “TECH” wordmark across its home whites, road navys and gold alternates.

The Yellow Jackets’ “TECH” wordmark with shadowed capitalized letters appears too spaced out. Navy is used as an accent color to bring out the gold on the home threads. Georgia Tech’s most appealing looks from Russell Athletic came during the Jarrett Jack era in the early 2000s when the Yellow Jackets donned white uniforms at home with heavy navy side panels and gold accents.

Jersey collars met at a contrasting color crest that featured the team’s secondary “Yellow Jacket” logo.
