Iowa’s current gold alternate is one of the cleanest looks in college basketball complete with a black “IOWA” wordmark and numerals outlined in white.

Prior to 2013, Iowa’s gold alternates had white numerals but the black makes them more unique. Shorts in previous years had thick contrasting stripes with minor piping until the 2012 revamp.

The Hawkeyes’ current diamond design on shorts is a modern feature after a decade of basic stripes and piping. Two contrasting stripes are separated by a black diamond that includes Iowa’s “Hawkeye” primary graphic. Iowa’s black road uniform has seen various subtle changes over the last few years but each set has included gold accents and piping.

In the late 2000s, Nike’s black Iowa road combination featured more a mustard yellow instead of vibrant gold with black numerals outlined in yellow. In 2012, yellow numerals were added before the wordmark was switched as well the following season.

On the Hawkeyes’ current home white threads, gold side panels and a two-toned neckline draw attention to the heavy impact “IOWA” wordmark in black across the chest. One aspect of the Hawkeyes’ gameday apparel that has stayed constant over the last few decades is the team’s use of “IOWA” across jerseys. It’s a staple of pride for the state and its home team.

The program experimented with “HAWKEYES” across its yellow alternates in the late 2000s, but it didn’t last for long.
