UNIFORM HISTORY

The navy and white.

While Penn State’s uniforms on the gridiron are simple and iconic, the Nittany Lions haven’t settled on a classic design yet on the hardwood.

Over the last several years, Penn State has used many Nike redesigns with the latest coming prior to the 2011-12 season. At home, the Nittany Lions don white uniforms with navy accents and navy neckline. The inverse is sported on the road with a white “PENN STATE” wordmark and numerals outlined in gray.

At the crest of both looks is the program’s primary “Nittany Lion” oval logo. The graphic is also placed on the shorts at the knee as well as a vertical “PENN STATE” wordmark. Rectangular side panels give Penn State its own look in the Big Ten.

The Nittany Lions did bring out a gray alternate in 2012, a color that seems to be the flavor of the month in college basketball. The muted light gray appeared white and corresponded with navy and white accents.

Even though the swoosh is Penn State’s leading apparel sponsor, the Nittany Lions suspended a small licensing contract with Adidas in March 2013 after workers at a factory in Indonesia were not paid severance after a closing in 2011.

Adidas is forbidden to produce any Penn State-related items and has 60 days to compensate workers before its partnership with the Nittany Lions is terminated.
