UConn always preferred a classic look under longtime Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun from 1987 to 2012, but the Huskies went deep into the Nike Elite realm under Kevin Ollie in 2013 with an all-silver get up and also have plans of unveiling a revised primary Huskie logo for the future.

While red has never taken the place of primary colors navy and white, UConn has donned the bright trim on its uniforms for more than a decade. Being a member of the swoosh’s hierarchy has provided the Huskies with top-of-the-line apparel and innovative technology.

In 2010, UConn was one of several schools to debut Nike’s Hyper Elite uniform which is 70 percent lighter than most. Sublimated graphics featuring the university’s establishment year in 1881 as well as several other noteworthy images lined the back of jerseys behind numerals.

Wide-paneled shorts of the late 1990s with Huskie patches at each knee have been replaced with thinner piping and a vertical wordmark for a more modern look. UConn’s new logo in 2013 is just the start of a rebranding effort by Nike within the athletic department that is expected to include new wordmarks and uniforms.

UConn has been to five Final Fours since 1999 with three national championships making the Huskies one of Nike’s most marketable programs. Connecticut signed a 10-year, $45.5 million contract with Nike in 2008.
