UNIFORM HISTORY

South Carolina unveiled its new Under Armour digs in 2010 after several years with Nike and with that came an updated alternate gray jersey in addition to subtle changes to the established white, black and garnet garb.

The season before the Under Armour switch, Nike created a Gamecocks specific font and unveiled the program’s first gray alternate with black numerals and garnet accents. The swoosh previously used block lettering in Columbia and preferred the “SOUTH CAROLINA” wordmark on jerseys instead of the 2009 “GAMECOCKS” revamp.

With Under Armour, the Gamecocks went back to their “SOUTH CAROLINA” wordmark across all four uniform combinations. On each option, two thick stripes span from the bottom of shorts all the way up to the arms with South Carolina’s traditional “BLOCK C” primary logo at the knee.

The “BLOCK C” is at the hip on the women’s team with “GAMECOCKS” displayed vertically down the team’s shorts. South Carolina’s current look appears very busy at the shoulders with four different logos on each jersey. An NCAA patch and American flag adorns the left shoulder while a UA emblem and SEC circle appears on the other side.

The problem with the Gamecocks’ Under Armour apparel when paired against the previous Nike era is that South Carolina’s shade of garnet doesn’t seem to match on UA threads. On South Carolina’s current black alternates for instance, the “SOUTH CAROLINA” wordmark is garnet while side panel stripes and accents on shorts appear varsity red.
