ECU head coach Ruffin McNeill answered a myriad of questions regarding the new look at his weekly Monday press conference and he noted that the black uniforms are not a “one-night wonder” and that they will allow the Pirates to use numerous different color combinations in the future.
“I told our kids last night that the uniforms are fantastic and I love them,” said McNeill, whose team takes on FAU (0-1) at 7:30 p.m on Thursday inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. “But starting with them first, it’s what’s inside that uniform, the person who puts that uniform on that’s more important. When our fans are cheering, they’re cheering for that Pirate that’s inside the uniform.”
McNeill admitted to being a little disappointed that the secret didn’t stay within the team until the Pirates took the field against the Owls. At least until the Sunday unveiling on September 1st of the new look to the players, McNeill contended the uniforms were a secret to virtually everyone.
