The Huskies warmed up in their traditional gold helmets, though rumors quickly began circulating that they’d be debuting a new, white helmet once the game started. And sure enough, when they came out of the tunnel, the patriotic helmets were on. Offensive lineman Sione Potoa’e led the team onto the field while carrying an American flag. Potoa’e’s father is in the military.
According to the school’s official website, discounted tickets were offered to local military, police and fire department personnel. Washington won the game 40-32 over Hawaii.
